Assessing the premium beauty landscape

CONTEXT
Boots is a British health and beauty retailer and pharmacy chain that operates in the UK and internationally.
CHALLENGE
Boots needed to explore consumer reactions to their new premium beauty proposition. Insight was needed to help establish how well stores were meeting needs and how this fared vs. the competitor landscape, where the gaps and opportunities exist and how to future proof the proposition in order to grow sales and market share.
A comprehensive multi-method approach was used to explore perceptions, attitudes and experiences of premium beauty, across their diverse store formats. This helped focus understanding on areas to celebrate, competitor learnings and key focus areas for future roll out.
Quantitative store exits were used to quantify missions and priorities by store type. Qualitative shopper safaris, colleague depth interviews, pre and post tasks set to explore beauty consultations were used to explore in depth reactions.
SOLUTION
Boxclever were able to provide a clear blueprint for future rollout of the premium beauty proposition in terms of key success criteria and areas to focus on.
Detailed guidance and direction was provided to equip a range of key teams – Brand, Category, Visual Merchandising, Customer Experience etc. to understand how to effectively roll out the premium beauty proposition to the wider portfolio of Boots stores.
